Spiritual Messages for Spring 2009

I just read a wonderful article in one of our local metaphysical newspapers, Earth Odyssey, here in Prescott, AZ, that talks about the human mind, emotions, and body connection. I found it very interesting and I wanted to pass on this insight to you, in my own words and understanding, as well as with this teaching of heart and mind.

The writing starts by making an assumption, and later goes on to show that chronic pain or illness and the symptoms of that, are signals from our unconscious telling us that we may be holding something limited in our mind’s total consciousness. The initial article from Mike Davis, of Energy Medicine Foundation here in Prescott, AZ, inspired me to underwrite this message and pass this knowledge on to you. I believe that this concept fits so well with the way we think and live with this teaching of the duality.

He starts his writing by making the following statement; “There is perhaps not a single one of us that hasn’t suffered from chronic pain or illness at one time or another in our lives.” He goes on and states that if you are like most, you have most likely focused on the physical nature of that pain or illness, which to most is the superficial external symptom. You have most likely characterized your pain or illness by the symptom of your physical body. In addition, your medical and health practitioners, whom you’ve asked for advice and guidance, have most likely done the same.

If you are one of the unlucky ones, that chronic pain or illness have come to describe you and your life, as it did with me in the past, I have great sympathy for you. However, what if the true cause of your distress was at the level of your subconscious mind, a deeper root cause, that was not physical in nature, but which simply is being manifested through the mental/emotional ending up in the physical body that we classify as symptoms? What if the true cause of your distress was at the level of your subconscious mind, and that the only way the subconscious could communicate with you was through your physical body speaking to you through your bodily symptoms?

What would you say if your physical body was part of your subconscious mind? If most of us understood and lived by that, then there would be a completely new way of viewing pain and illness. We could then see the pain and illness as spiritual messengers, giving us information about something limited in us, in you, that’s not being address and is creating a symptom of pain and illness, your message that something in you, is not right.

On the other hand, if we continue living and thinking we are our physical matter, we can just say, my back is sore because yesterday I chopped wood, and cleaned the yard. Or, that I have prostrate cancer because it runs in the family? This is how I see most humans to include my self in the past, think and hold these things in their mind, and eventually in to the physical body.

There is growing evidence that pain and illness is nothing more than direct feedback, from our body. As a confirmation, symptoms tend to disappear when the root cause, the emotional or energetic cause, is identified and resolved. We could almost call it Spiritual in nature as the only adequate description of such a magnificent messenger.

However, Mike Davis continues by saying that we have to go to the beginning. Most likely you, as most humans probably think, you are a physical being, even though the last 60 years or so, of quantum physics has established without much doubt that you are an energetic being, held together by electro-magnetic forces and different “fields” of energy, the likes of which most can hardly imagine, let alone comprehend.

Quantum physicist Ervin Lazlo notes, “…in the emerging concept of the new sciences there is no categorical divide between the physical world, the living world ant the world and the world of mind and consciousness.” He continues saying that, “Matter is vanishing as a fundamental feature of reality, retreating before energy; and continuous fields are replacing discrete particles as the basic elements of an energy-bathed universe.”

As the eminent Jesuit scientist Pierre Teilhared de Chardin famously remarked, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

For now, let us understand, that we humans in fact are much more than just our physical nature.

So, we ask, what does his have to do with the pain in my back? Dr. Candace Pert, neuroscientist, author and health activists concludes, that “We can no longer think of the emotions as having less validity than physical or material substance, but instead must see them as cellular signals that are involved in the process of translating information into physical reality, literally transforming mind into matter.”

Emotions then, take on an energetic life deep within you, and from my perspective, the only “body system,” that works is one that incorporates the mental, emotional and physical bodies, interconnected and interrelated that with time will reflect symptoms that are designed to alert you to these repressed matter in your body. As a result, the language of the body is pain, symptoms, and illness.

This is why that chronic back pain will disappear once the emotional basis and root of the pain is identified and resolved. This will happen in ways that defy the traditional laws of physical healing. This mind-emotions-body communication system demands a high level of “stalking,” first your emotional mind, in developing a greater brutal and self-honesty, having self-reflection, and introspection that may develop as a deeper awareness of that in you, and with that, will help you with having a deeper awareness to other’s. This could be something that we can aspire for your selves, as new practice, and or path, that one can develop in your lifetime.

Many of our most repressed emotional traumas were developed during our childhood domestication, and may not even be within our conscious perception. On the other hand, the negative feedback that arises from that could be instead about the limited direction that your life, your work, your purpose, your health, and your relationship’s are taking.

This is where the spiritual or energetic healer may be required, to bring an intuited awareness to these issues and shift them from one’s field. The exciting news is that pain and illness uses a language to speak to us, and it is one, that, we can learn with time and attention. It is simply the language of “location and function.”

The location in your physical body of your pain or illness is not an accident, and this limited projection from my understanding, typically starts at the limited emotion that is being suppressed, consciously or unconsciously, with time, it will be directed to a basic body part or organ that corresponds that what your holding emotionally. Ancient Shamanic knowledge through out the planet has been holding this perception for thousands of years.

For example, breast cancer has been described by many to be the modern “feminine wound” and likely concerns deep-seated inadequacies over one’s worthiness or sexual attractiveness, as well as over mothering others to the point of creating a ”less than” effect for the giver. Testicular and Prostate illnesses can then be portrayed as the modern “masculine wound,” and it may concern unresolved shame, guilt, and inadequacy issues.

Lower back pain predictable concerns the carrying of an unfair or unwanted task or responsibility. Since your back is out of sight, it may concern issue you do not with to see or confront. It may also reflect resistance of conflict in some very fundamental direction of your life.

It may be as simply not feeling supported in a time of struggle, difficult and stressful times. If it is on your right side of your body, it may involve male issues, that “doing” part of you, and the female, that “feeling” part of you are issues on the left side of the body. Have you noticed how some times you wake up in the morning with a sore back, shoulder, or neck... these could be signs that your holding unresolved emotional issues?

While this is a very rudimentary introduction to the language of pain an illness, of symptom, if we can begin to put aside the physical symptoms, that can be dealt with modern medicine techniques, and focus on the underlying emotional or psychological issue at its root cause, we will begin to bring our bodies under our conscious control. Having direct awareness of what really ails us, through our emotional body, is the first step.

Resolution of these issues that you may still be holding in you, or a change in the direction of one’s life through discernment and refraining, will end the symptoms; we can say then, that the message has been received.

I suggest that we make friends with your pain or illness. Listen very, carefully. It is telling you something that you cannot learn from any other source, especially from the otter dream. It is your own, reflective and insightful spiritual message. Are you prepared to listen and act from that in you?
