The Un-Guessable Teaching

Dear don Luis,

I'm on a plane not far from Baghdad at present, heading for Innsbruck in Austria after having spent some time in Australia with my parents. I want to thank you for your continuing kindness and the good will with which you have given time to me as your student and apprentice. Manifold, inexplicable changes in me which have occurred over the time I have been working with you are becoming more and more evident in unexpected areas of my life and especially in my relationships with significant others.

My mother had a serious stroke several months ago. While she is recovering remarkably well, I sense that she is in a period of transition.  I feel my having been there for some time with her has had quite an impact on us both.  I found myself relating quite differently with both my parents, at ease, able to express affection in a way I never could before.  I left with a feeling that balance has come into the equation between us for the first time ever in our time on this planet together.  Whatever the outcome, I feel comfortable with them and surprisingly I sense that they do with me too.  It is as though the uncertainty is fading away, leaving a sense of equilibrium and peace in its place, something intangible that doesn't seem to need discussion or consideration. At the deepest level of being, this is as it should be and yet, comes to me as an utterly unexpected gift.

I love the way the teaching reveals itself.  Each next page is absolutely un-guessable. I can sense something of your dilemma in encapsulating it into a transmittable form. If it is of any value to you in obtaining some perspective into what you do from the receiving end, I'll try and express how it comes across to me.  

For me, you personally are not really doing the teaching.  More so than in anyone else I have ever encountered, the teaching is doing YOU .  No matter how hard you try to control it, shape it or structure it, it happens, perfectly, appropriately, regardless of the circumstances.  

While some of your basic philosophy is clearly and concisely structured, every course is unique.  The philosophy grows and changes, the people are different, the time duration is different, locations vary, circumstances vary and your energy varies.  But the teaching is always consistent.  It is always new, fresh, totally unexpected and far beyond the bounds of predictability.  

The real teaching lies in the realisations, the revelations that occur in the hearts of your students and in yours too.  You do not control that.  But you very effectively open the door for Grace to enter into and become active in the lives you touch and also in your own.  

The constant factors in the teaching are student, the teacher and the infinite source of both that both create and sustains them. The student, the nagual and Nagual.  You are the pivotal point between the infinite ocean of possibility and the faltering creature who hardly dares to dive into it. Yours is the role of a bridge, central to and fully participating in the flow of life from Creator to creature.  No matter what you try to do to modify things, you still stand with one hand stretched upwards to the hand of the Divine and the other stretched downward, to help a younger brother upwards. Moving from the darkness, through the shadows, into the light.

I feel immensely privileged to be able to share a little of this astounding journey with you.
